On a distant gaseous world, massive city-kingdoms are kept afloat by powerful magicians. For reasons no one knows, the magic has begun to fail and the cities are starting to crumble. In desperation, an evil Sky King kidnaps neighboring magicians in an effort to save his own people. When his master is among those kidnapped, it's up to a young magician's apprentice to find him and save his world from certain civil war.

After spending nearly a century locked away in a basement, a chance accident brings a collection of sideshow Pickled Punks (grossly deformed infants preserved in jars of formaldehyde) to life. At night, the Punks sneak out of their jars seeking adventure on the streets of modern-day San Francisco, quite possibly the only place where the “normal” citizens are just as twisted as the freaks.
